Creating mods (modifications) to existing games is a common practice, not just for computer games, but for any form of games. Does this imply that any game can be considered a game system? Why/why not?

ok based on the definition of game system... mods to existing games cant be considered a game system unless it introduces other new components or formal elements into the mod.

Let's take a pack of uno cards as eg... we can play the usual uno game with the pack of cards... I have played speed (or also known as snap if i'm not wrong) with uno cards... and the Hey Mama group used the uno card for their social game too. In these 2 mods the game system remains as the standard pack of uno cards which functioned across different games... the only change was how it was used. It's just like the same pyramids in icehouse affords different play style.

I will only consider the mod as another game system when there are new elements added which caused it to vary from the original. Eg. adding a dice/spinner to a pack of uno cards for some other games... that would be creating a new system by building onto current systems.

Consider a game which you feel could be successfully modified. How could this game be generalized into a game system? How much of the unique character/flavour of the game can be retained? How generic can you make the game system? How easy will it be to create new, unique games from the game system?

now this is really tough... read thru some other blogs saw examples of warcraft, half life, counterstrike etc... have i taken a wrong module? i cant even recall the last time i played such games... i mean wat's with the games these days? they're so complicated to play that i stick to the old simple stuffs like puzzle bubble, mario, racing games etc... erm... nobody to play board games with too =( haiz~ everyone else was "too old" for games when I learnt how to play board games... i'll really have to answer this qn based on the limited stuffs i can recall so pls bear with me if u find my games *ahem* kinda hoping to get the nintendo revolution... not sure if it's really that good but saw a short ad clip seemed like a return to the basic skills needed for gaming =) suits me!

ok this is a bit "stealing" but i shall give credits to unstable psychopath... really no idea! =( sorry about that... but ya scissors paper stone mod... i remember playing this game we called 205. a bit old now so hope i din remember the game wrongly... allows 3 players (not sure if can fit more in but standard scissors paper stone only allowed 2 players so we probably felt that it was too lonely) we'll say 2-0-5 and then either put out the back or front of our palm. the 2 showing the same will have to play scissors paper stone and the winner gets to "slap" the one who lost. and the game continues with the 2-0-5... so as unstable psychopath has pointed out the generic part of scissors paper stone is that A wins B, B wins C, C wins A.

Describe one new game designed on top of the game system you proposed in question 2.

Actually this game has been suggested by Hey Mama group for the social game but they later changed to the uno card one. Their idea was from shit upgrade to toilet and then to supervisor thru playing scissors paper stone (sps). The 2 ver I've played were from egg to chick to mother hen and from ape to man to superman. A slight difference is that the versions I played made it possible to hen & superman to go down back to egg and shit if they keep losing subsequently. It's still using the same game system as sps but one new element has been built into it and that's to "upgrade" yourself each time you win a round. Just adds more fun to the otherwise dry sps game.

hope i'm answering the qns ... kinda cant really catch wat i'm supposed to write this time round. or mayb it's just me... tired me...
