Formal elements of SPEED!
Short intro to the game speed: it's a card game played with uno/poker cards where cards are all randomly shuffled n evenly distributed to both players. it's a 2 player game thou i've tried playing with 3 players. it just messes up everything n u'll end up laughing at the silly things everyone does more than conc on the game. so both players will have their deck facing down (not even supposed to know what's the next card in ur own deck) n both will reveal one card together at each round. when 2 identical cards appear u need to slap ur hand on the already opened deck on the table and shout SPEED! the louder the better... more excitement! y slap? it's so that even if u're slower n lose out in this round, u get to slap the winner's hand =p haha!! whoever's hand got onto the deck of cards first can collect that deck. game is played till one party has insufficient cards to cont. playing.
Players: 2 ONLY
Player interaction patterns: player VS player
Objective: Can't really classify it but I guess it's a mixture of capture n race... or rather i'd prefer to call it speed, as the game name suggests cuz it's a competition of speed n to capture the deck of opened cards b4 the other player.
Procedures: as introduced above... i cant really break them into the individual steps
Rules: I learnt the rules from my frenz... no idea where this game idea came from cuz apparently it's a modification from uno/poker cards n has no play tools of its own. so erm... rules are passed on by word of mouth? hee~ it's weird to look at how rules are enforced... cuz the "winner" gets slapped for keeping to the rules of the games n winning it. haha! or should i say we were such obedient kids that we played by the rules with no qn asked =p we just need a table to play... if no table... floor oso can! convenient game yea... can play anywhere. Rules r actually v simple, easily understood rite? but the fun comes in the play itself ^_^
Resources: Uno/poker cards. w/o them... the game cant exist
Conflict: Opponent
Boundaries: the first n last card indicates the start n end of the game
Outcome: win/lose
I'm quite sure this description is very detailed n fully captures the essence of playing this game. However, it might be cuz i already know how to play this game. so for those who has nvr played speed, mayb u might like to point out some ambiguities in my description =) much appreciated!
Ok... to be honest, haven had the time to read Doug Church's reading. Will get it read n post up my response by fri midnite... my promise! T_T *sobz*
